A bassist, or bass player, of a band is the member who plays the bass guitar, or any other related bass instrument. The bassist usually stands to the side of the lead singer during a performance, usually opposite to the guitarist, and like the drummer, he helps provide a foundation rhythm to the music.

Petra has had five official bassists through its career, with others performing under an unofficial status as either session bassists, or touring musicians.
