Cristian Tomas Borneo (born June 29, 1981) is an Argentinian musician, drummer, and percussionist. He has been the drummer of Petra since 2013. Borneo started playing with the band during 2010 filling in for Paul Simmons during several reunion shows.
Borneo was born on June 29, 1981 in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. When he was 11 years old, he started studying at the Luis Gianneo Music Conservatory in Mar del Plata. After seeing his enthusiasm for music, his mother bought him a drum set.
As he grew up, he continued practicing and playing drums at church and with different bands. When he was 16, he began taking classes with Javier Puyol. The next year, he began studying at Berklee in Buenos Aires and taking private classes with Fernando Martínez.
In 2000, Borneo went to Los Angeles Music Academy where he had the opportunity to study with Mike Shapiro, Ralph Humphrey, Tony Inselaco, and others. In 2002, he received a scholarship to study at Berklee in Boston. The next year, he recorded and played with several artists.
Borneo served as music teacher in two schools of contemporary music. In 2005, he began playing drums for Pablo Olivares.
In 2010, Borneo started playing in several Petra reunions as a temporary replacement for Paul Simmons. When the band decided to return from retirement for their 40th Anniversary Tour, he was chosen as their new drummer. During 2013, Borneo toured with the band and has continued to perform with them in shows since.
