David J. Lichens is an American musician, songwriter, singer, and guitarist. He was the guitarist of Petra from 1995 to 1997.

Biography[]

David Lichens was born in Eugene, Oregon.

Petra[]

In 1995, Lichens joined Christian rock band Petra, as a replacement for band's founder and guitarist Bob Hartman who had decided to partially retire. That same year, the band released the album No Doubt, which features Lichens in the cover and artwork. However, all of the guitars in the album were played by Hartman.

During the next years, Lichens toured with the band. Lichens contributed for the recording of the next album, Petra Praise 2: We Need Jesus, before being fired for musical differences.

After Petra[]

After his departure from Petra, Lichens moved to Los Angeles where he led a band called The Heavy Steadies. Also, he began recording songs for films and shows. His song "Let Go" was featured in the movie soundtrack for She's the Man. Other songs of his have been featured in films like Saved!, After Sex, and The Water Horse

In 2010, Lichens served as one of the producers for Fefe Dobson's album Joy. Lichens also co-wrote four of the songs. Lichens also worked with former American Idol contestant Jason Castro and his brother Michael. Lichens has continued a career in production, working with artists like Rebekah White, among others.
